The association was founded by Fiskars Knife 94 organizers and the inaugural meeting was held in Hyvinkää 2.2.1995. From then on the association has grown from a swift pace. At present the association's membership is about 1100 paying members.

Association's mission is to foster a Finnish knife ancient, rich tradition in various forms and to make Finnish knife known also abroad.

To achieve this mission, association organizes knifemaking competitions, knife exhibitions, sales occasions, study tours and education.

Association's newsletter "Puukkoposti" is published twice a year. It acts as a conduit of information between members and includes interesting, versatile knife themes related articles.

The most important annual event has become Fiskars Knife Days, which is held in mid-May. It presents the official finnish championships medals to the best knife makers in several different series and publishes the title "Knifesmith of the Year". Currently competition includes also an open international series.

Association is involved in Kauhava Knife Festival arrangements. Our members are participating in various wilderness and gun-fair events. Our members have received international success with a knifemaking competitions.
